Sandra Bernhard says Mariah Carey is “completely over the top”

HollywoodNews.com: The hilarious Sandra Bernhard is currently starring in her one-woman show I Love Being Me, Don’t You? at downtown LA’s REDCAT. The nine-show gig will end on Aug. 21. She talked to Frontiers IN LA about the show, her upcoming appearance on Roseanne Barr’s reality show, her desire to return to television and a lot more including her thoughts on Mariah Carey! Here are some excerpts: Q. You’re considered by many to be a comedy icon, and you’re most definitely a gay icon, but I’m curious, who are some people that you personally look up to, for whatever reason? A. When I was growing up, there was Carol Channing, Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Jonathan Winters, Johnny Carson and Dick Cavett. As I got a little older and started getting into music, there was Joni Mitchell, The Stones, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross—all the great Motown sound and R&B and rock ‘n roll. And then later, Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin were big influences on me, right around when I was first starting my performing at about 18 or 19 years old. Then there are always new people coming along, like Amy Poehler, Lisa Lampanelli. I like people in all these different directions that I think are really fun and talented.
